It started my last semester of college.
I applied and got an internship with my university as the 'photojournalist' for university communications. In essence, I went to all the events/talks/shows on campus and photographed the people/events/shows.
You won't see them here because, well, they're not part of my artistic practice. This internship was to see/teach me how to work in non-artistic photography.
At this internship, I was told upfront that I would get credit and be able to build a portfolio.
Only later have I learned that this program, along with practically every other program the school does, was a bucket of lies.
I have no credit
I have no ability to prove what I took is what I took
I have no portfolio because I fear that if I use the images I took, I'll be sued. [it may be irrational, but I don't want to risk it]
And to top it all off, the photo-essay I wrote up was taken by my boss and put under her name and not mine
My photos have been used for articles, a couple of publications, profile imagery, and blog stories. Some of the photos I took at events before I was even in the internship have been used for other things. One example is a photo I took during an event was used for the school planner. How did they get it? Off a facebook friends page.
I didn't know that every picture I have taken at this school can be used for their gain.
Don't get me wrong, I loved my education I got there, my professors are awesome people. It's the politics and administrative parts I really am beginning to hate.
Now, I've graduated, I'm looking for work with some relation to the artistic field. It's that much harder to get said work because my internship shows no work by me. Thankfully I have a job working for my father, but I would like to be a little bit fiscally independent from my family. And at this rate, I'll be working for my father for a while yet.
Is it that hard to add "Photo by X" next to an image? I seriously doubt people will die if that happens.
I just want credit. I want it for the ability to get work in the photography field.
I don't know what to do because I'm pretty sure walking in and demanding credit will not reflect well on my character.
TL;DR - give credit where credit is due. It's wrong to believe that a photographer is worth less than a reporter.

Let's not talk about hopes and dreams
Well, I've certainly been gone for a while and god has it been that long I've had a deviantart account.
I'm now 26 and learned the hard way that art will not make money.
Still trying, mostly as I'm currently unemployed. Last job was a contract call center gig and boy was that as fun as a barrell of agitated cats. I've had 3 other jobs, Gamestop bitch, School bookstore bitch, and Data entry bitch.
If you hear someone telling you to go to college for what you love, please proceed to punch them in the nads and realize the phrase in question is a bundle of horse malarkey unless you have the personality of a saint and everyone already loves you
Not Dead Yet!
No, really. I swear. I've just been really busy. Way to busy force my art down your respective throats. I kinda had a job. It was temporary and I get called in every so often. Which is better than nothing, but a dead-end job that pays absolute crap wasn't my idea of life choices. But we all got to start somewhere...
I just wish I got a job based on my qualities and not because a friend was absolutely desperate for a worker, but beggers can't be choosers.
I have come to the conclusion that getting employment in any field is all based on who you know and how forceful you shove your resume down someone's throat. I just need to get more forcefu
I guess free time is a good thing?
Well, with being barely employed, I have a lot of spare time. Hence the massive uploading that I've been doing
Soon, I'll get the last of the darkroom stuff, I just need to get to the darkroom XP
Anyhoo, I'm contemplating selling prints, but first I need to buy a printer. Anyone have any recommendation for a good photo-printer? One that can print luster and other types of paper [such as watercolor]? I'm looking for the best printer for the best price.
Hopefully people will actually want to buy my prints, I've reached that point in my art where people like it, but not that much -.-
Murrr
Can't find work :(
and I have to deal with a post I made on tumblr that's getting people butthurt along with people making fun of me.
Sometimes, I wonder why I even try.
